5 Things to Do ASAP When You Are Planning an Indian Wedding

Indian Wedding Card

Congratulations on your engagement! Now it is time to get down to business and start planning your big fat Indian wedding. It can be overwhelming thinking about the food, the venue, the Indian wedding cards…but stop all that and focus! These are the 5 things that you should do as soon as possible!

  1. Pick 3-4 Potential Wedding Dates.
Before you begin your search for any vendors or even a venue, you have to have a few dates to work with. Sit down with your fiance, your parents, and his parents to discuss dates that will work well for all of you. Narrow it down to three or four so that you can start your venue search. There is no reason to tour any places if they won’t even be available one of your preferred days!
  2. Book A Maharaj.
You probably thought that you should book your venue first, but a really good Maharaj will get booked up extremely quickly. With your desired dates in had, speak to the priest that you and your family want to book right away.
  3. Make a Guest List.
The guest list will probably be amended a dozen times before it is finalized, but having a general headcount will be important when you are looking at venues and trying to nail down a caterer. You and the groom should sit with your families and come up with the dream guest list. You can slowly narrow it down if the cost becomes too prohibitive.
  4. Set a Budget.
Once you have an idea of how many people you want to invite, you can start finalizing your budget. You may want to do a line item budget to make sure you get all the elements you desire. Make sure to remember to add the big stuff like caterer, gown, and flowers. However, don’t forget the smaller things like Indian wedding cards, party favors, and place cards.
  5. Make Your To-Do List.
Once you have your budget ironed out, you can make your wedding timeline and to-do list. There are a lot of great resources out there to help you plan! You can even find websites to help like The Knot.
